How to inhabit, structure, and balance miniature worlds on paper?
How to talk about drawings while talking about the world, the color palette of everyday life? How to explore paper with four hands? Through drawing for drawing.
In a work of daily hygiene, the practices are the pleasure of doing.
This selection of drawings reflects a meeting that has become daily, for 2 years now between Alain Lapierre and Jimmy Richer, who are both visual artists who express themselves particularly through drawing. Alchemy, tension, balance, matter, movement, imitation, hybridization, organic, artificial, visceral. So many qualifiers are possible within the meeting of these two artists. Which are only qualified here, for the most part, by the gesture, the pleasure of doing and by observing. Each of them brings their concerns, their observations of the world, their gestures and their doubts to lay it down on paper at each drawing session. In a balancing act, the techniques intersect and converse with great freedom. Here, drawing becomes cathartic. Liberating from contemporary ecological anxieties and the transformation of the world through gesture. Even if it is only by hand.

Alain Lapierre and Jimmy Richier are two artists who favour drawing in their usual practice. In 2023, they undertake a 4-handed joint work following a precise protocol. Like a layered composition, they return to each other’s graphic proposals at each stage until they find a balance. It’s not a question of assembling their individual expressions, but of discovering a common third way that stimulates their imaginations and know-how. The universes that emerge evoke composite spaces, sometimes futuristic or post-apocalyptic, where the powers of nature engulf or hybridize with fragile architectures. They sign these large baroque compositions often very colourful between painting and drawing with their two names.
