“La Poetica dell’acqua “ Astrattismi Metafisici--------------------- Paradossalmente, a dispetto delle apparenze, Vito Lo Piccolo non deforma la realtà. Al contrario: la approfondisce. Attraverso una serie di progressive zoomate o ingrandimenti, attraversa, va oltre la realtà fotografata, pur rispettandola sostanzialmente perché all'origine c'è sempre il dato di partenza (poco importa se costituito da riflessi speculari o presenze oggettive). Grazie a questi avvicinamenti lenticolari Lo Piccolo si ritrova in un mondo germinale, espanso, primordiale. Starei per dire che le sue elaborazioni mi ricordano le tesi di uno studioso, C.H.Waddington, secondo il quale certa arte astratta, in particolare la cosiddetta astrazione organica, si muoveva inconsapevolmente di concerto con la scienza: come questa rivelava un mondo di microorganismi o addirittura un mondo atomico se non subatomico. Lo Piccolo procede nella medesima direzione: non inventa, scopre che le fila che innervano questa realtà erroneamente ritenuta autre hanno una loro bellezza, una loro verità. Certi risultati richiamano alla mente la pittura di Clifford Still, uno degli esponenti di punta dell'Action painting capace di catapultarci nel microcosmo che precede la nostra storia di esseri umani. Sembra quasi che Lo Piccolo abbia fatto suo, adattandolo ad un diverso contesto, visivo invece che narrativo, l'invito di Henry James a sforzarsi sempre di “seeing 'through' - one thing through another, …. and still other things through that” (ma nessuna meraviglia se si pensa alla straordinaria sensibilità visiva di questo grande scrittore!). On the contrary: he enhances it. Through a series of progressive close-ups or enlargements, he crosses and goes beyond the reality captured in the photograph, while still respecting its substance; because the origins always give a starting point (it is of little importance whether this is made up of specular reflections or objective presences). Thanks to these close-ups, Lo Piccolo finds himself in a germinal, expanded, primordial world. His work reminds me of the thesis of a scholar, C.H. Waddington, who maintained that certain forms of abstract art, in particular the so-called organic abstraction, moved unknowingly in harmony with science: just like science, it revealed a world of micro-organisms or even an atomic or subatomic world. Lo Piccolo works in the same direction: he discovers rather than invents that the threads that innervate this reality, wrongly referred to as autre, have a beauty and a truth of their own. Some of his outcomes recall the painting of Clifford Still, one of the leading figures in Action painting, capable of projecting himself into the microcosm that precedes our history as human beings. It is almost as if Lo Piccolo had made his own the invitation made by Henry James to “see 'through' - one thing through another…and still other things through that”, adapting it to a visual context instead of a narrative one (but this should come as no surprise when we consider the extraordinary visual sensitivity of this great writer!)
