L’opera rappresenta un paesaggio di lago di sera. Una scena romantica in mezzo ad un’atmosfera monocromatica di tonalità di blu, mettendo in risalto il rosso dell’ombrello e dei fiori, il giallo della luce e il bianco della vela, a dimostrare che il buio non può oscurare i colori dei sentimenti. In uno sfondo piatto, gli unici elementi in rilievo sono l’acqua del lago, a significare l’andamento movimentato della vita, e la vela che si stacca dal contesto come unico elemento di salvezza. La poesia scritta sulla vela esprime e rafforza il significato del messaggio dell’opera. La scena si interrompe col passe-partout, per ripetersi poi nella cornice, per evidenziare che dopo le pause, gli ostacoli, le difficoltà, tutto riprende allo stesso modo. The painting is a landscape of lake in the evening. A romantic scene in the midst of an atmosphere of monochromatic shades of blue, highlighting the red umbrella and flowers, the yellow light and the white sail, to show that the darkness can not overshadow the colors of feelings. In a flat background, the only elements in relief are the lake water, signifying the evolution of life handled, and the sail is detached from the context as one element of salvation. The poem written on the sail expresses and reinforces the meaning of the message of the work. The scene is interrupted with the master key, then repeat for the frame, to highlight that after the breaks, obstacles, difficulties, all incorporates the same way.
