Ephemeral Soil, Gioele Provenzano - T.O.E. Art Market

Ephemeral Soil reflects on the contradiction at the heart of human progress: the ability to obtain everything instantly, thanks to ever more advanced materials, without considering the consequences. We create objects intended to last forever, yet we treat them as ephemeral. The work takes shape through a process of collection and transformation. Anonymous fragments of unbridled consumption, taken directly from the ground, are shredded and incorporated into the painted surface, becoming an irreversible presence. Silent traces of a system that produces and discards ceaselessly. The diptych is reminiscent of garden paving slabs, but instead of two concrete slabs, two patches of lawn emerge. It is not a flower-filled lawn, however: it is a carpet of microplastics, camouflaged yet omnipresent. Painted on glass in reverse and suspended from the wall, the work reflects and distorts reality, evoking the fragility of an increasingly compromised ecosystem.
