ASTERION N.12, Tommasino Maderna - T.O.E. Art Market

ASTERION is a series of fifteen portraits developed through processes of digital erosion and recomposition. The images resist stable likeness, becoming a site of tension between visibility and withdrawal: a place where the figures emerge only intermittently, marked by solitude and vulnerability, and yet rendered without defense or spectacle. Rather than using technology to refine or resolve the image, the work employs it as a tool for reduction. Resolution is diminished, surfaces collapse, and the image is pushed toward disappearance into a space where control is relinquished and the imperfect and incomplete are left unresolved. The portraits refuse direct address, holding interiority at a distance. What is unseen is not recovered, but deliberately withheld, allowed to withdraw from view. Across the series, fragmentation becomes a method for approaching narrative and identity: an entire cosmos suggested through fragments, shaped as much by what disappears as by what remains.
