About the artwork
About the artist
This work reflects on the water crisis experienced in Monterrey in 2023, when prolonged drought led to severe supply shortages, generating uncertainty and social tension. Starting from a digital photograph of a barely perceptible cloud, the image is translated into a pictorial language through a structure based on the pixel as the minimum unit of information.
Each panel functions as a fragment of a visual code, where colored squares construct an interrupted image that requires distance and time to be perceived. The cloud—traditionally a symbol of abundance—appears here fragmented and dematerialized, alluding to data, climate records, and the inaccessibility of essential natural resources.
Through the contrast between tempera’s matte opacity and oil’s depth and luminosity, the work emphasizes the tension between the digital and the organic. The painting becomes a space of reflection on environmental fragility, where repetition, accumulation, and fragmentation evoke both technological systems and human vulnerability.
